Reverse-Vine® is a proprietary extract from a blend of red wine, grape cluster stems, and grapevine. It contains high levels of trans-resveratrol, a natural polyphenol and phytoalexin, a substance that helps plants defend against invading microbes. Reverse-Vine also has oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) and trans-e-viniferin, a resveratrol derivative that plays an important role in plant healing.
In addition to its antioxidant properties, trans-resveratrol regulates the gene expression of anti-oxidative enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), in human cells found throughout layers of skin as well as the vasculature. SOD neutralizes free radicals that can prematurely age skin and helps promote the repair and production of healthy skin cells.
Research Supports Antioxidant Benefits
In vitro research shows that Reverse-Vine protected human cells exposed to oxidation, including a 25% increase in SOD activities. Reverse-Vine was 7% more effective than resveratrol alone and 44% more effective than the control group.
Reverse-Vine also showed superior activation of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), an enzyme reported to regulate the metabolism and the lifespan of cells. This gene is believed to have a profound effect on animal lifespan, as studies have shown that animals with the SIRT-1 gene activated live, on average, as much as 40 percent longer than their counterparts.
